Hi everyone, I'm Jason and I'd like to thank you for checking out my work here on Deviant Art!
I'll make this short and sweet...
Growing up Halloween was a big event for me. Mom's birthday is on Halloween, so year after year we'd put on a show for the neighborhood. This caused me to start doing special effects make-up. I loved the reaction I got from people so much that I would occasionally do a quick wound on myself before school and freak out classmates and teachers during the day. Little things like golf-ball sized boils filled with mayo and fake blood or having a toothpick stuck in my arm were fairly common for me to do.
My Senior year of high school I worked on all the make-up for our drama (that's right, I said it) club haunted house and the next year I found myself working for the Haunted Hotel haunted house in downtown San Diego where I got to be a monster for two seasons, and by seasons I mean Octobers. By my third season I was in the role of make-up artist. From there my future wife, then girlfriend asked me what I wanted to do next and I replied with sculpture, more specifically making Halloween masks.
Actually, I left out the fact that during that time I worked at a casino on graveyardshift maintanence (have you ever had to clean up a woman's hepatitis infected menstrual fluid, not only on her chair but also the slot machine she was slaving away on? I mean, how the hell does that even happen?). Sorry, now I'm just bragging. My first tax return (ever) from that very interesting year of my life went to mask-making supplies)
After 2 years experience all on my own I was hired by Disguise Inc in October 2004, a Halloween company here in San Diego where I worked as a mold maker. In December of 2008 I began working for their competition, Rubies, which just happened to be here in San Diego as well where I'm currently employed as a sculptor. I know I got really lucky with this. I've been fortunate enough to learn, work for, and with some truly impressive homosapiens.
I only hope to one day be as good as, blah blah blah... they know they're awesome.
Ok, I lied. It's not short nor sweet.
So yeah that's my creative story so far. I have alot of projects in the works and I can't wait to show you and the rest of the world what I have to offer.
